First Time to Europe - Where to Go?
the abridged version –
Will it be your first time to Europe? Unsure where to go? Maybe even a bit nervous? But, hopefully, excited too! I remember my first time to Europe. And, it included the following places, although we also went to Nice, France. And, since that first time in Europe, I’ve been to these cities several times each. And, will continue to go. They are fantastic destinations to include in any itinerary. Even as a stand-alone trip, whether for a quick weekend trip or spending 10 days. There are so many activities and experiences to take in, in each place.
The Ideal First Time to Europe Itinerary to Europe Should Include…
London, England. Paris, France. Rome, Italy.
And, let’s see why.
LONDON, ENGLAND –
London, England – Like Samuel Johnson said: “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life….” I have to agree! This is my most favorite city in the world. So far. Let’s see why you can enjoy it too. This city has so much to offer. It has a fantastic energy and cultural diversity that are so appealing for a city.
If you love museums- you’ve got the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate and numerous others. You can see a show- musical or play at various theaters, including Shakespeare’s Globe. Then there are the markets, pubs, and shopping to catch your eye and keep you busy. As well as the typical tourist sites- Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, Hyde Park & Big Ben which are well worth it.
PARIS, FRANCE –
Paris, France – “To err is human. To loaf is Parisian.” -Victor Hugo
Truth be told I didn’t love Paris at first. Took four tries actually! (: Still, I think most people will fall head over heels for Paris initially. And, there are plenty of reasons why you should.
If all you could do was visit the Louvre and have an almond croissant, I’d say you’d be satisfied with the visit to Paris. Yet, you have plenty of other museums, as well as shopping, and must-see sites. Wander down the Champs E’Lysees, view the Eiffel Tower from every which angle. View the sunset from the steps of the Sacre Coeur. And, have as many visits to cafe’s and bakeries as is possible. Maybe buy a book at Shakespeare and Company.
ROME, ITALY –
Rome – Italy – “In Rome, one had simply to sit still and feel.” ― E.M. Forster
A city I never tire of. No matter where we are from in the world, most of us have a complete fascination with Italy. And, it lives up to our expectations in so many ways. It’s fascinating how it combines its ancient ruins with a modern feel.
You also have some of the best art museums & shopping. Then there is the history – The Colosseum, The Forum and, so on. With the sites that everyone comes for – Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and all the piazzas. And, don’t forget the coffee, gelato, pizza and pasta that are pure perfection!
Why these 3 cities for your first time in Europe?
Besides the fact that they are completely amazing cities. You have so many options of what to see and do. These cities are used to having tourists, so you won’t feel out of place. They are a good starting point for getting your feet wet in European travel. You’ll get a taste of what it’s like. And, therefore be able to explore the countries further, or venture to other countries that might be more off the beaten path. Although I love a good adventure to unusual places. I think London, Paris, and Rome are absolutely amazing cities to visit whether it’s your first time to Europe or it’s your 50th time to the city.
